Hit And Miss!

I know that many ladies that read here, have little boys; and so this question is for you.  How have you encouraged your little boys to aim a little better when going to the bathroom?  My husband has obviously tried to coach Dylan on how its done but he seems to be aiming less accurately everyday!  My downstairs bathroom is starting to smell a little...eeew!  I think to combat that problem of wee running underneath the base of the toilet, can be combatted with running a bead of silicone around the base...must get my husband on to that asap!  I have heard of some people using a pingpong ball in the toilet water to give something to aim at...but it seems a bit gross to me?  What happens to the ping pong when someone uses the bathroom for another reason?  So I am hoping that some of you may have a few tips or pointers that you would be willing to kindly share with me!  Thank you all in advance!

I have heard that some ladies will drop a Cheerio in the toilet to give them a target. Just flush it down with the rest of the mess. Of course, you'll need a new Cheerio for each bathroom trip for Dylan. I've never tried it, but it seems like a good idea.

My boys, however, were not good aimers at that age either. Even still they will get distracted and miss. Boys, in my opinion, will make anything into a game. I even caught them more than once trying to write letters in the splash into the toilet bowl from their urine stream! The letters just got bigger and bigger until.... It was NOT good.

try cheerios or something similar instead of the ball - they're flushable.

LOL...I don't think there's really a whole lot that works well, except a lot of time and coaching! It does eventually get better, at least a little better :D I've heard using Cheerios works well. They float and then you can flush them. I don't get the whole ping pong ball thing, cause you can't flush it so that means you'd have to stick your hand in there and grab it...EWWWW!! I hope you get some good suggestions though! I have another boy coming up to potty training after 5 girls so I just may be a little rusty!

Cheerious work too, and they just flush away!

Okay, not sure if they even have Cheerios in Ireland or not. They are small round pieces of cereal made from oats.

I am sorry I don't have any ideas. Mine never had any trouble. I wish I could give you pointers. I would try putting something in the toliet and see if that helps.

I agree with Twinkle Toes. It is an on going problem around here. When I find it, I make him stop WHATEVER his is doing and immediately clean it up.

Wow, thank you everyone! I had to laugh when you all said Cheerios, what a great idea I would never have thought of it! Haha! We do have Cheerios in Ireland, though we don't buy them...I talked to my husband about it and he said we could buy them as a one off...Amy was delighted! I was also glad to see that we are not the only ones who have a problem with this! Thank you again for your suggestions!

God Bless

Jackie - Yes, we also have been having Dylan clean up his own messes...he seems to rather enjoy it though! Who knew mopping could be so much fun?!

Ok, just came over to comment about Cheerios....we lovingly referred to them as "tinkle time targets", but I see many other experienced mamas out there already came to the rescue! =) If you don't have Cheerios, any small bite size cereal would do.

Also, as a reward for actually going in the potty (and not elsewhere)....an M&M (or other chocolate treat) is always a welcome reward after little hands are washed for a job well done. =)

Blessings on your weekend!
