An Evening At The Theatre...

Just last week, our family arranged to go to a local theatre production, of "Goldilocks And The Three Bears".  We have watched quite a few pantomimes and musicals in our town before, and they were all brilliant.  We love to see the hard work of those involved coming together to make a spectacular evening for local families to enjoy!

Given the title of the show, I'm guessing that most would assume the production would be clean, and family friendly...well it most certainly wasn't.  My husband and I are so angry, about what we, and our children saw last Wednesday night.  Here are a few of the "highlights":

  • Goldilocks' "boyfriend" was played by a another girl...in leather hot pants and high heels?  The two skipped about on stage confessing their undying love for one another, and making plans for their marriage?  What, are there no boys in our town, who could play the part in trousers?

  • Young teenage dancers were dressed up in "Britney Spears style" school uniforms and showed off their underwear in every dance routine (save one).  I'm sure these girls worked very hard to learn their routines...but it was sad to see them being exploited by the people who should be protecting them.  The mothers of these girls ought be ashamed, for not guarding their daughters purity.

  • There were jokes a plenty about viagra, the marital bed, adultery and mens private parts.  Obviously an important ingredient in a family show.

  •  Baby Bear kept "hitting" on Goldie.  Which was incredibly gross, considering the guy in the bear suit was about fifty and the girl playing Goldie was seemingly in her late teens or early twenties.  Yuck!

  • Oh, and I just loved how Daddy Bear sang "Don't be a drag, just be a queen...I was born this way"!  Apparently this is a current chart song, sung by a hideous pop singer.  Perhaps they were hoping to "educate" our children that being a queer is normal?  Urgh!

Sounds like a great show huh?!  I can honestly say that we will never, ever, attend our local theatre again.  It's such a shame really, because they used to be very good.

Thats too bad. I would have thought it sounded good too. I don't ever remember that being part of the story. I'm sorry you had to see it. It gets worse and worse all the time.

I know what you mean. I have "watched" DVD's that were touted as family friendly that had things I would never let my children see. I have learned to make sure I preview everything before they see it. Even some things rated G are not appropriate in our house! So sorry you had this experience.

Wow - that is really quite shocking!!! Who knew an innocent story like that could be perverted so much???

So sorry your family night didn't turn out as planned. :(

Wow, that's even worse than our viewing of Mary Poppins 2 years ago. Mary's "spoonful of sugar" was alcohol and she gave it to the entire family to get them drunk, she made all the kids toys go away (after they came alive), she danced horribly with Burt in a very dirty way (talking grinding), she was a floozy, it was horrible. Really, what happened to simple retelling of a fun story?

Wow! That is c-r-a-z-y. That must have been so hard to sit through, yikes! I just can't imagine what this world will be like when our kids are our age :(

Awww, Sarah! Sorry family night turned out that way :( Everything is perverted now, nothing is pure or innocent anymore, i guess not even goldilocks and the three bears :( sad!
Well, thanks for sharing and shedding light on the wickedness, and taking a stand against it! Most would sit thru it, and say oh well, thats life today... Thats how we got where we are....Christians tolerating it.
Well, hope this week is better family fun :)

Were you able to leave? Why did you have to sit through the whole thing? I would have left right away and not let my children see anymore!

Anon~ To be competely honest with you, both my husband and I did consider leaving. Talking about it later on, we both realised that we should have left immediately.

Our family innocently went to a HOMESCHOOL ice skating show that some of our friends kids were in.Sadly,it was NOT at all as we had thought it was going to be.The music was HORRIBLE and the skating/dancing was NOT GOD honoring at all.We were so embarrassed that we were even there. If we could have left discreetely we would have but instead my husband chose to not watch as what he would have had to see was not something he would want to see.It was actually quite sad as we knew many of the cast and had no idea that they would participate in something so awful.
