How Readest Thou?

My husband and I have had the pleasure of attending, watching and listening to many fantastic sermons over the Christmas period.  I hope to share some of them with you over the next few months, I hope you find them as instructing and encouraging as we did.  This particular sermon focused on how vitally important it is to be in God's word everyday!  God commands it of us.  How else would we know what He expects of us, how to praise Him, how to live, how would we grow as believers...etc?

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction,
for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God
may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."
 ~ 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Our children do have devotionals that we get from our church, and they do offer small snippets of scripture to help with their understanding, but reading directly from the Bible and letting the Holy Spirit be our guide is of much more importance.  The Bible is inspired, devotionals are not.  Make the most of your limited time, and read whole chapters of God's perfect, preserved, inspired word, not one or two verses that someone else picked out.

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth." ~ Timothy 2:15

At the start of the year many Christians begin to re-read through the Bible cover-to-cover, if you have never done so, I encourage you to begin today!  You don't need fancy reading plans or similar (although they can be helpful if you want to use them), just pick up your Bible (if you don't have one buy one, or go online), choose a book and begin reading! :)
