Making Ready The Garden...

Busy Boys

This past week, I began to get the garden ready for planting.  I had not planned on planting anything this year, on account of me finding out that we were expecting...but then when we learned that I had miscarried, there seemed no reason to hold back any longer.  And so, I decided that I would to plant a few things.

Anyways, as I say, one day last week I began!  Boy oh boy!  By the end of the afternoon, I was exhausted and my hands were sore and blistered.  We have a good, heavy spade, and even though I did try and use the spades own weight to cut through the sod...I just don't possess the same upper-body strength that my husband has.  Thankfully he has done almost all of the rest of the digging!  ♥

In the time since we took these pictures, we have sown: kale, carrots, swedes (though here in Ireland we still call these "turnips"), sunflowers and tomatoes.  We also have potatoes and strawberries in buckets.  I have plenty more crops that I would like to sow...but I ran out of seeds and haven't yet had time to go buy some more.  I can't wait for the first seedlings to appear in the ground!  However, it has been so cold and windy of late, that it really doesn't seem like it is almost *JUNE* and I am afraid that my seedlings will be afraid to poke their heads out!

Just the other morning, as Dylan was getting ready to go and feed his chickens, Abigail spotted her coat laying on the floor and shouted "aht!" [out].  Ha!  "Aht, aht!"  With that, she proceed to crawl over to me, dragging her coat behind her.  Everyone thought she was so funny.  Dylan then volunteered to take her along to see the chickens.  He didn't take her inside the pen though, she just watched from outside, so as to keep her safe.  They had fun together and Abigail was absolutely delighted that her request was granted!

A Visit To Kilkenny Castle

All Ready To Go!

Last week, our family travelled to Kilkenny to take Megan for her appointment, with a paediatric dentist.  Just recently, Megan has had some decay set in on her front teeth, that needed attention, and so our regular dentist made a referral.  Meg enjoyed her visit...a little!  The play-room there was lovely, and all the little kids had a ball with the nice toys and books.  Though, you'll just have to take my word on that, because I forgot to take the camera inside with us!  To make up, we took one outside just before we left to grab a bite to eat for an early lunch. :)

After out "healthy" lunch (hahaha!) we drove around sightseeing for a while, before we headed on to Kilkenny Castle.  We couldn't get a parking spot close, so Daddy dropped us off, while he went to park up.  The kids and I walked down to the farmers market that was just down the road.  It was lovely to browse around in the sunshine!  We bought a bag of delicious organic cherries (helps make up for our junky lunch!) and then found my Honey walking towards us.  After a quick snack, we walked into the castle gardens and took some more pictures, before heading inside.

The Gruesome Twosome!

Inside the castle was super fun!  Firstly, we watched a short historic documentary, detailing some interesting facts and history about the castle and it's past owners.  Then we toured around the castle.  The rooms were so carefully and beautifully restored, that it was a crying shame that we weren't allowed to take pictures!  We wandered around for about an hour or so, before we found the tea-room and enjoyed some refreshments and *cake*. :)

Next, we ambled out onto the green.  The biggun's chatted and had fun watching the little's who ran around like greyhounds!  Abigail LOVED being able to crawl all over the grassy area without fear of prickles, unlike at home.  We stayed out there for quite a while, enjoying the sunshine and open space, before we headed to the playground for a short time before we headed home.  We had such a fun day, and hope you liked "visiting" Kilkenny with us!
